In the media, dogs are often recognized for protecting and saving their owner’s lives. While a dog may be a man’s best friend, these three kitties showed their love and loyalty to their owners by protecting their humans from danger.

Baby

baby the cat - 3 heroic catsA 13-year-old tabby named Baby saved her family from a potentially life-threatening house fire. Josh Ornburg and Letitia Kovalovsky, who was seven months pregnant, had been fast asleep on the couch in their living room when a fire started in the back bedroom and began to engulf the house. Baby quickly alerted her owners, jumping up and down on Josh until he woke up. Josh credits Baby for saving his family, mentioning how the out-of-character behavior made him realize something was wrong.
Ornberg commented to Peoplepets.com, “She’s usually not a very social cat, but she jumped on my lap and was jumping around.” Sadly, the house fire destroyed all the couple’s possessions, but everyone, including Baby, survived the terrifying ordeal. Without Baby’s quick thinking and love for her family, the outcome could have been much worse.

Masha

This cat’s motherly instincts were lifesaving for one tiny soul. Masha is deemed a hero in her hometown of Obinsk, Russia. Passersby were initially concerned due to Masha’s loud cries and meows. Once followed, Masha would lead them to a heartbreaking scene: a cardboard box holding an abandoned baby, all alone.
Masha curled up around the baby, her thick fur being the sole reason for the baby’s survival. Even after the baby received aid, Masha remained a concerned mother. She wanted to make sure the baby was receiving the utmost care, even following the car as the baby was taken to the hospital. Masha, the cat, is a shining example of how a mother’s love knows no bounds.

Rusty

Rusty the cat - 3 heroic catsRusty at 10 years old, was struggling to find a forever home at the Humane Society of Berks County. His owner Claire gave him a loving home, looking past Rusty’s old age. Rusty would soon repay that favor in a way Claire would have never guessed.
One day, Claire was feeling extremely tired. She assumed it was indigestion and went to lie down. Rusty started acting out of character: the elderly cat meowed loudly, jumped on Claire, and pawed at her chest. His odd behavior eventually led Claire to call her doctor to set up an appointment. While waiting at the bus, Claire’s intuition told her something was dreadfully wrong. She called 911 instead and later found out that she had just suffered a heart attack.
If it wasn’t for Rusty’s love for Claire and intuition, Claire would have never received the medical care. To see the full video of Rusty and his owner, click here.

Baby, Masha, and Rusty all prove that cats can also be man’s best friend. Through their love, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to their owners, these felines are not ones to take for granted.
